Begin your journey with pickup from your Cairo hotel and travel approximately 2 hours through the scenic desert to Wadi El Natrun, a historic monastic center that once housed around 60 Coptic compounds and is now listed on UNESCO’s tentative World Heritage sites. Start your visit at Deir al-Baramus, the oldest surviving monastery, where you will pass through its fortified walls built to protect monks from desert raids and explore its ancient churches, chapels, baptistery, refectory, and keep. Continue to Deir Anba Bishoi, founded in the 4th century by Saint Pishoy, featuring five churches protected by a 5th-century fortress. Conclude with Deir El Suryani, the smallest monastery, home to Syriac monks and important Coptic relics, including the body of Saint Pishoy. After the visits, enjoy an optional lunch (own expense) before returning to Cairo, where you will be dropped off at your hotel.
